1. Shaktikanta Das appointed new RBI 

     governor:

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Urjit Patel's resignation came ahead of the December 14 meeting of the RBI
  • He is the first governor since 1990 to step down before his term ends
  • Patel's three-year term was to end in September 2019
India’s former economic affairs secretary and current member of the Finance Commission Shaktikanta Das is to be appointed as next RBI Governor.


In the multi-phase polling, Chhattisgarh voted on November 12 (18 seats) and November 20 (72 seats); Madhya Pradesh (230 seats) and Mizoram (40 seats) on November 28; and Rajasthan (199 seats) and Telangana (119 seats) on December 7.

Here are the key highlights:

Trends at 8:45pm: 
In MP, Congress-114, BJP-109, Others-5, BSP-02. In Rajasthan, Congress-101, BJP-73, Others-19, BSP-06. In Chhattisgarh, Congress-68, BJP-14, BSP-07 and Others-1.

* Rajasthan: Outgoing CM Vasundhara Raje submits resignation to Rajasthan governor. She congratulated Congress and said, "I accept this mandate by the people. BJP has worked a lot for them in these 5 years, I hope the next party takes those policies and works forward."

Congress leaders AK Antony and Mallikarjun Kharge have been appointed as observers for Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, respectively.

* Addressing a press conference on Tuesday evening, Congress president Rahul Gandhi said that Congress does not want to remove any party or person from the country. "We want to win the 2019 elections and we will win it but we don't want to remove anyone," he said taking a jibe at BJP's 'Congress-Mukt Bharat' campaign.

* Rajasthan: Congress Legislature Party will be meeting at 11 am and then again on Wednesday evening to decide who will be the next CM in Rajasthan. Rahul Gandhi will take final call Wednesday on who will be Rajasthan chief minister.

* Madhya Pradesh: Congress has begun contacting leaders of small parties and and also independents for mustering a simple majority.

In MP, Congress-113, BJP-108, Others-7, BSP-02. In Rajasthan, Congress-100, BJP-74, Others-19, BSP-06. In Chhattisgarh, Congress-65, BJP-18 and BSP-07.

* "Democracy has won! Thank you India, you have chosen love over hate, peace over violence & truth over lies. This victory is yours," read a tweet on the party's official Twitter handle, with the hashtag 'CongressWinsBIG'.

* Chhattisgarh: Former CM and regional Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (JCC) supremo Ajit Jogi elected from Marwahi (ST) constituency with a margin of 46,250 votes while his wife Renu Ajit Jogi is leading from Kota constituency and his daughter-in-law is leading by 1,038 votes in Akaltara constituency.

Mizoram: A delegation of Mizo National Front (MNF) led by its president Zoramthanga met Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan after the party won 26 seats in the state Assembly polls.

* Rajasthan: Ashok Gehlot, 
and Congress leaders in Jaipur. Congress party has won 46 seats in the state and is leading on 51 seats so far.

* Chhattisgarh: Doling out rice and mobiles, Raman Singh saw 'entertainment' in Rahul Gandhi's loan-waiver promise.

* Mizoram: CM Lal Thanhawla and Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh submits resignation to respective governor. Raman Singh has been the head of government since 2003, winning three consecutive terms. While in Mizoram, Congress won a massive mandate of 34 seats in 2013 and MNF had secured the second position with five seats.

* Madhya Pradesh: BJP's Aakash Kailash Vijayvargiya wins from Indore-3 constituency with a margin of 7000 votes. He is the son of Kailash Vijayvargiya who is the national general secretary of BJP.

* Rajasthan: State assembly speaker, Kailash Meghwal, the oldest unmarried legislator, elected by whopping 74,542 votes from Shahpura seat of Bhilwara, Rajasthan.

* A farmers' body based in Uttar Pradesh reasoned that BJP's "anti-farmer" policies and "agricultural distress" led to BJP's poor electoral performance in Hindi heartland states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.

* Madhya Pradesh: Congress candidate Sanjay Shukla wins from Indore 1. In Hatpipalialya constituency, BJP minister Deepak Joshi defeated by Congress first timer Manoj Choudhary.

Indigenously developed Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has achieved important milestone of flying at 6 km.

Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration was adopted by 164 nations including India at Intergovermental Conference to adopt this compact
